Governor, IRDC Prepare to Empower Rural Iowa

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds unveiled her Empower Rural Iowa task force at the Iowa State Fair last week.  And, she acknowledged the critical partnership her office will have with the Iowa Rural Development Council (IRDC) in the newly-launched initiative.

Empower Rural Iowa has 66 appointed members from across the state, each of whom sought the opportunity to serve.  More than 180 individuals submitted a self-nomination to the task force, demonstrating the broad interest in rural ideas and policy solutions.

Governor Reynolds and IRDC Chair Sandy Ehrig helped kick-off Empower Iowa at an event last month in Winterset.  Ehrig and Lt. Governor Adam Gregg will co-chair the initiative.   The State Fair announcement was an opportunity to announce task force appointees and the schedule of meetings.  Empower Iowa features three separate committees, focused on rural housing (Invest), rural broadband (Connect) and rural leadership/strategic planning (Grow).  Five IRDC members were among the appointees on each of the committees and will help lead their respective teams.
